On the 24th of May at UFC 173, UFC bantamweight T.J Dillashaw caused one of the biggest upsets in the UFC’s modern day era by dethroning UFC bantamweight champion Renan Barao by technical knockout in the final round.
Prior to UFC 173, Barao was considered to be one of the top pound-for-pound fighters today holding a record of 32-1-(1) not having suffered a single defeat in over nine years. Although those statistics may be intimidating to some, it had no ill effect on Dillashaw. Dillashaw would put on a masterful performance of technical combat, to meticulously pick apart Barao round after round before finishing the fight in the fifth and final round. Dillashaw would not only win the UFC bantamweight title, but the respect of many who witnessed the fight.
